Naxos Island

Naxos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece . It is the biggest island in the Cyclades , consisted of splendid beaches and its mountainous beauty.

The Portara - the "emblem" of Naxos - is a giant gate, which was the entrance of the Temple of Apollo . It is located near the port of Naxos and attracts thousands of visitors each year. The Venetian Castle which is situated in the heart of Chora, created by the Venetian sovereignty (1207 - 1564) is a gem. The interior walls of the castle remain unaltered and many Venetian homes equally exist and are inhabited. In the castle, there are museums, a Catholic temple (13th century) and alleys that will surely be a unique experience. A visit to the Old Market around the castle, consisted of labyrinths of lanes, alleys and walkway passages will also be memorable.

Saint George is the most popular beach on the island. With its smooth sand, this beach covers a distance of over one kilometre. The beaches of Saint Prokopi and Saint Anna are equally popular and also have smooth sand. There are also many more beaches that can be visited that are equally interesting and could be to your liking.

 

There are more than 40 villages that you can visit, each one with its own character and colours. The beaches of the island are considered by far the best in Greece while its nature is unique.

Apeiranthos , which is located at an altitude of 650 metres, is a very cultural village. Koronos, which is built on two mountainsides that look at one another, is renowned for their grindstone. Keramoti is a village just around the mountains and is full of walnut trees, grape vines and olives.

There are a lot of monuments that you can visit, such as the Virgin Mary , the Saint George , the Belonian Tower , and the Eapsiloteras Monastery . Each having a special meaning to the Island.
